We’ve learned through the magic of Instagram that the old Astor Bake Shop space that closed at the end of last year has found a new occupant. The Gastroteca folks “bought the space and are starting a new concept” called Astoria Provisions. It is slated to open this summer. Not much is online beyond that, but overall we are thrilled to see a new business open up in this lovely spot.
UPDATE, 4/19: We heard from Jessica Parlatore, one of the owners, and she told us these tidbits:
“The feel of Astoria Provisions is going to be that of a neighborhood Market / “Fine Diner”. We plan on having a healthy amount of retail products that will be prepared/jared ourself under the Astoria Provisions label. There will be plenty of baking on site for breakfast. We plan to serve breakfast, Lunch and Dinner 7 days a week.”
It’s a great time to be in that location. In the words of NY YIMBY, they “can barely keep up with all the new construction in western Astoria, where investors have started snapping up parking lots, row houses, and warehouses left and right.” Additionally, nearby Welling Court Mural Project continues to be awesome and has really taken over as the major street art location for Western Queens since 5 Pointz was destroyed (RIP). The nearby Astoria Ferry will launch in August, too. There’s a lot to love about the area.
We’ve reached out to the Gastoteca folks for more information and will pass that on if/when they share that (see above).
