We reported in our Openings, Closings and Rumors roundup for the new year that a Pig Beach location is confirmed for Studio Square, as they filed for their liquor license at the last community board meeting. LIC Post now reports that the BBQ joint has slated an April 2020 opening date.

Pig Beach is a Brooklyn-based, elevated BBQ destination that likes to twist and turn classic smoked meat techniques to produce fresh and original dishes (like citrus-marinated ribs with Mojo Rojo and Mojo Verde sauces, for example). Instead of down-home barbequers, it’s run by NYC top chefs. They source all their ingredients locally and also focus on serving local beers and craft cocktails. “Whether it’s NYC-style pastrami, Italian-style charcuterie, Za’tar rubbed leg of lamb, Yuzu glazed smoked duck or good old Buffalo chicken wings, the focus will always be on the best ingredients, thoughtful cooking and the guest experience,” their website reads.

They’ve won a slew of awards from all over the country for BBQ, best cooked hog, poultry, and more.

A view of the outdoor portion of Studio Square.

Studio Square was a beer garden that closed in November of 2018, and always had trouble with rowdy crowds and noise complaints from neighbors in the vicinity. The space is nearly 30,000 square feet, including a 12,000 square foot garden/patio. That patio/garden space will reportedly keep the giant TV screen and picnic tables, but they are also working on some renovations currently on the inside. Along with the indoor and outdoor bar and dining areas, there is an event space as well.

One of the co-owners, Shane McBride, lives in Astoria, and told the Post that it will have a relaxed “vibe” and will be welcoming to families and kids. Classic rock and oldies will be sounding from the speakers instead of the pop and club music Studio Square seemed to blast out.

We’re counting down the days!
