Don’t call it a comeback: Sanford’s Big Return!
One of Broadway’s most beloved restaurants, Sanford’s, is finally back in business after a long re-model. I stopped in last night to get the scoop, and I can tell you that the staff and management are just as excited about the restaurant’s return as we hungry Astorians are!
The big news here? WHISKEY, and lots of it. They have 290 different bottles to choose from, making it the largest selection in Queens, and bigger than most selections in all of the five boroughs. With the additional space created with a side room and bar, there are now 120 tables available. (Maybe these will make brunch waits just a little shorter? We can dream!)
And the new menu? Oh boy. While Sanford’s is keeping most of their tried and true dishes around, they’re also introducing intriguing new additions. We’re talking tequila-braised BBQ meatballs, truffle mac and cheese, slow-roasted baby back ribs, a pork belly appetizer, and Berkshire pork porterhouse chops. My big question….do you think they’ll let me move in?
They will be serving strictly dinner with a limited menu until Monday 8/24, when they expand to regular hours and start introducing a full menu. See you there, with a glass of whiskey!

How gorgeous is this new bar? And just look at all that whiskey!

Farewell, Claire’s Boutique!
If you were a 90s girl, I’m guessing you spent a decent amount of time in the Claire’s Boutique in your local mall. It was my go-to place for everything from fuzzy pens and friendship bracelets to ‘NSYNC lip gloss and magnetic earrings. Sadly, a Facebook reader tipped us off that the Claire’s on Steinway is closing, so I gave them a call to get the details. Unfortunately, the rumors are true. While they don’t have an exact closing date yet, Claire’s will be leaving sometime in the fall. Stock up on your fuzzy pens and friendship bracelets now before they’re gone!

Looks like these doors will soon be closing for good.

By the way the hookah bar is more like a strip joint. Bad news
A new hookah bar on Steinway! How original!
It’s not Steinway, but rather Ditmars. Read the article before commenting. Hookah bars rock.
Darn was hoping Sanfords would open a dance floor next door to it’s restaurant. We need more places to boogy in the neighborhood!
