File this under strange, but awesome: On Monday, July 20, Queens Comfort and Cinema Under the Influence will present Trapped in the Comfort, a screening of all 33 chapters of R. Kelly’s hip-hopera Trapped In The Closet. Yes, you read that correctly! While guests enjoy the screening, Queens Comfort, Astoria’s favorite kooky restaurant, will provide an “inventive buffet menu of psychedelic Italian cuisine.” Think chicken parmesan lasagna, boneless pork chop stacks and vinegar pepper, shrimp gran mariner, eggplant supreme, and more! Keeping it local, kegs will be provided by neighborhood favorite Singlecut Beersmiths. From the organizers: (because I could never do this event description justice!) “Cinema Under The Influence and Queens Comfort invite you to a one-of-a-kind evening of sensuality, cinema, music, and food, featuring a big-screen presentation of R. Kelly’s seminal hip-hopera Trapped in the Closet. Chronicling the misadventures of Sylvester after a seemingly innocuous one-night stand with a preacher’s wife, TitC spins out a web of drama and absurd humor over thirty-three separate chapters, all in the Key of E and anchored by Kel’s silk-soaked melodic mastery. This is a work of ecstatic madness, rewarded by repeated viewings, and a must for the uninitiated.” There will be two seatings: one at 6pm, and one at 9pm. Tickets can be purchased for $40 on the official Eventbrite page. We can help but be intrigued by this crazy event.
