Happy almost 4th of July, Astoria! For those of you hanging around in the nabe this weekend, here are some fun food goodies to enjoy tomorrow and and beyond.
Last night, the We Heart Astoria team tried the new and improved Sage General Store. You may have heard, but they’ve seriously expanded to now include a full sit down space, which very much exemplifies their cozy, hospitable style. Some of our must try stand-outs included the classic guacamole and chips (with homemade tostones), the 5 cheese mac & cheese, the wild mushroom polenta, and for dessert an insanely good butterscotch pecan cake. They also have a special deal on Wednesdays in the month of July and August that features an organic skillet-fried chicken, mac & cheese, a homemade cheddar biscuit and a handmade fruit pie for just $20 person. Mmmm…stomach is growling. 24-20 Jackson Avenue, LIC. 718.361.0707
Did you see that Oliver’s Gastropub on Broadway is now open, and serving up some pretty tasty looking sandwiches? Pop in this weekend for a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with a side of housemade BBQ spice kettle chips. 37-19 Broadway, Astoria. 718.806.1476
Now that the Astor Bake Shop 3rd Annual Pie Eating contest is over, we can look back at all the fun (and their wonderfully messy pictures). Enjoy this sweet photo montage.
Even though they’re taking a day off for the 4th, Sugarfreak will be serving brunch on Friday the 5th starting at 11 a.m. Do check out their delicious Bananas Foster French Toast (the above is the chicken and waffles version of the banana foster sauce, which is also very tasty). 36-18 30th Avenue, Astoria. 718.726.5850
Speaking of brunch, Ovelia will be serving it tomorrow on the 4th in lieu of their raw bar happy hour. Enjoy delicious homemade Cypriot sausage (pictured above), a signature Mediterranean breakfast, a beet omelet, their tiropita toast and more! 34-01 30th Avenue, Astoria. 718.721.7217
We are so proud of Bear’s, Chef Natasha Pogrebinsky and The Queens Kickshaw’s, Chef Youngsun Lee for rockin’ it out this week at the Fancy Food Show. See a recap of Chef Natasha’s demo here. Great job chefs…way to represent for Astoria!
