Just take a walk in your local park or sit at an outdoor café in the summer, and you’ll know that New Yorkers LOVE their pets. According to the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), there are over 1.1 million pets in the city (and those numbers are from a few years ago). Queens is no exception.

We’ve received a lot of DM’s asking about pet-friendly places in the borough, so of course we did our best to round them all up for you! We based it on our knowledge, plus got some help from Pet Friendly NYC, a community-based organization that identifies cafés, hotels and businesses with a pet friendly policy with their own sticker.

*For this post, we either spoke with Pet Friendly NYC (who has worked with the business) or spoke directly with management. According to Pet Friendly NYC, for a restaurant to be considered pet friendly, they must have an outdoor area available to welcome pets in order to comply with the Sanitary code and state guidelines. See more info here: https://rules.cityofnewyork.us/tags/dogs-restaurants.*

*If a restaurant or business serving food allows a pet indoors it is under their own risk, and could be fined. Any other business that doesn’t serve/handle food, it is up to them to decide if they want to welcome pets.*

The Obvious

Chateau le Woof (31-01 Vernon Blvd, Astoria): Okay, Chateau le Woof was specifically created to be a pet-friendly café, so you probably already know about it. But if not, you’ll have to stop by! There’s expertly blended coffee, pastries and sandwiches on one side, and then a dog play area and store on the other side. They also hosts training classes and events (like doggie brunch and birthday parties).

Parks: Again, parks are probably the obvious place to take your pooch, but we’ve highlighted each of their specific policies so you can know exactly what is and isn’t allowed! All NYC dog owners that bring their pups must adhere to these Rules and Regulations.

These Queens parks all have an off-leash policy, meaning dogs are allowed to be off leash from the time the park opens until 9:00 a.m., and from 9:00 p.m. until the park closes:

  • Astoria Park (19 19th St, Queens)
  • Rainey Park (Vernon Blvd. bet. 33 Rd. and 34 Ave., Queens)
  • Queensbridge Park (Queensboro Bridge, 41 Rd., 40 Ave. bet. The East River, Vernon Blvd., and 21 St., Queens)

At Socrates Sculpture Park (32-01 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City), dogs must be kept on leash at all times.

Dog Run on Hoyt Avenue (Hoyt Ave, between 23 and 24th St.): This long-awaited dog park just opened this summer, and features separate areas for large and small dogs, spray hydrants and drinking fountains with dog bowls.

Our park is pretty awesome, isn’t it?

The Breweries

Fifth Hammer (10-28 46th Ave, Long Island City)

Finback Brewery (78-01 77th Ave, Glendale, NY)

Bridge and Tunnel Brewery (15-35 Decatur St, Ridgewood)

Singlecut (19-33 37th St, Astoria): Pets are allowed outside at Singlecut, but not in the taproom.

Bars/Restaurants

Katch Astoria (31-19 Newtown Ave, Astoria): Katch told us they are “pet-friendly every day,” and once a month they host a “Pups ‘n Pints” event where Astoria dogs can socialize and owners can enjoy over 50 beers on tap. It’s the second Thursday of every month on their “Kourtyard” – the backyard patio space that is even tented and dog-friendly throughout the winter months.

The Ditty (3503 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria)

Mom’s Astoria (33-01 31st Ave, Astoria)

Anable Basin (4-40 44th Dr, Long Island City)

LIC Bar (45-58 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City)

Is there anywhere we’ve missed that you’ve had luck at in the past? If so, let us know in the comments!

Katch Astoria always makes dogs and dog parents feel at home, and event provides treats to the pups. Their Pups n Pints event is great, drink specials and doggie dinner. We love this place!

I’ve taken my dog to loads of outdoor seating places in the summer! Shady Lady, Via Trenta, Vite Vinosteria, Antika, Ovelia, Burger Club, DiWine. I don’t think I’ve ever been turned away for outdoor seating in Astoria.

The time is due for the discrimination towards pet parents to end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are here. We have the numbers to prove it. We deserve parental rights. Our pets are FAMILY, not living accessories. Pets behave no worse than the unruly toddler flinging spaghetti over on the next table. (Pick your industry: Some support the diaper industry. We happily choose the weewee pad industry.) I’ve seen children create bigger chaos with their obscene lack of discipline from neglectful parents, who think that everyone has to put up with their self-perceived “cuteness”. Pets have feelings too. ‘Bout time.

I’ve seen them kick people out with dogs too, maybe it depends on the bartender that night?

I’m not sure if it is assumed because they’re literally connected to Mom’s but Halsey’s almost ALWAYS has pups outside. There’s more space so I see more hanging over there instead of Mom’s :)
