Happy Thanksgiving, Astoria!

This year and every year, we’re thankful for: the late-night souvlaki truck, for quiet streets and trees that turn, for Athens Square chess games and Breakfast Shack victories, for above-ground, fresh-aired subways, and for neighbors who know our name.

For space on the sidewalk to stroll and breathe, for sooooo many dinner options, for down-to-Earth people, for evenings with the most colorful sunsets that hit the rooftops just right, for business signs from another era, that remind you of the rich history of these streets.

Now here’s what all of YOU are most thankful for!

Thankful for grape vines, rose bushes, and sunflowers. And for friendly faces, loyal neighbors, and local vendors. Also grateful for delicious/endless food options, lack of pretense, elevated subways, multiplicity of languages, and familial roots.

@dianadirico

I’m thankful for the open-hearted community that makes me feel safe and at home. There are no airs of being “cool,” we just are cool. There is an authenticity here that many areas of NYC have lost.

@cessamarie

Thankful for Queens and to be born and raised here Astoria til I die 💙

@sebas.biggs

I’m thankful that our neighborhood is still so heavily Italian so that I can continue to cherish my heritage and it’s warm-hearted culture. Thankful that the European way of living of the older generations is still very much alive so that we can step back and take life at a slower pace. Thankful that I’m surrounded by so many people from other cultures throughout our neighborhood as well so that we get to experience how much the world has to offer us whenever we want it. And thankful that gentrification hasn’t sterilized our gorgeous, friendly, melting pot.

@claebaybay

Thankful for the over-the-top holiday decorations that abound in our neighborhood. Thankful for neighbors who are there for each other. Thankful for kid-friendly restaurants. And always, always thankful for the cultural diversity that defines Astoria!

@nugivon

I’m thankful that I get to live in this beautiful city/neighborhood

I’m thankful for friendly neighborhood businesses like @astoriabookshop and @astoriacoffeeny that make me really feel like part of a real community. I’m thankful for good restaurants and for seeing the same faces on the streets, for the green spaces open to all, for world-class culture at @movingimagenyc, for the big sweeping curve on the N train line that tells me I’m nearly home, and for the view of the skyline.

@cocktailians

Thankful for cultural diversity, @snowdonianyc, and the new yoga studio that opened up oh so close to my apartment @breathe_strength.

We are thankful for creative and distinctive small businesses! Some of our favorites in Astoria include @roxelanajewelsfinegifts@thegullynyc@lavecinaastoria@grandwineliquor@katchastoria@astorapiaries@astoriarentalspace, and that’s only the very tip of the iceberg!

@greenkettlenyc

I’m thankful for @abcbroadway and all the legit friends I’ve made over the years there.

Thankful for Saturday afternoons in Astoria park and tailors that know your name. ❤️

I am thankful for neighbors that are always there for me. I am thankful that on Saturday, instead of shopping at a supermarket, I can shop at the butcher, fish monger, fruit and vegetable shop, bakery which makes me feel like I’m in Europe.
