Lockwood is a mainstay in Astoria with its home/gift, paper and style stores—and became a welcome addition to Jackson Heights in 2015 as well. Now the store (owned by WHA founder and editor Mackenzi Farquer) will be expanding to Greenpoint, Brooklyn!

The concept will be a “best hits” of all current Lockwood stores in one space: including clothing, homewares and accessories, stationary, cards, candles and more.

Mackenzi speaks about the decision to expand to Brooklyn (spoiler, she originally wanted to try LIC), the special circumstances that led to the exact space, and her staff’s response in the IGTV video below.

She also expands upon the struggles of being a small business in NYC and investing in your community, which I personally found fascinating.

Only a hop, skip and a jump away from Astoria (the subway is a bit of a pain, needing to switch from the N/W to the 7 to the G, but a car ride or Uber is 15 minutes, or even a Citibike ride is only 20 minutes away), look out for the store opening in September 2019.

She also is open to hearing about any other great Queens neighborhood suggestions to keep an eye on for the future, so comment if you have any below!

I’m hoping a much better choice than LIC. Locals do not patronize shops there. That’s why you can’t even find a shoe store. Rents are too high, there’s really no neighborhood. Now just giant glass towers.
Greenpoint is amazing. It has a Lockwood vibe

Welcome to Greenpoint. Funny you said friendly landlords. There is high rent commercial blight here in Greenpoint with many empty commercial spaces. Good luck.
