The Triboro/RFK Bridge from the Astoria Park track.

Let’s do a quick link round up of some exciting things before we get to the big news:

+ Burgerology (remember?) is *almost* ready to open, and is hiring.

+ Gossip Coffee reopened, appears to have new owners, serves cocktails, and has those cookies everyone is nuts for.

+ A new gastrobar is about to open on Broadway.

+ Compton’s, a fancy sandwich shop/deli, is open on 30th Ave., in the old Chateau Le Woof space.

+ Adrian Block, Astoria’s first CBD bar, opened this summer in the old Bowery Bay space.

+ Nino’s AQ, soon to open on Ditmars, is now hiring.

+ William Hallet is closing for good Sunday, 9/16.

+ The long rumored/awaited donut spot from Queens Comfort, Comfortland, looks almost ready to open.

What else did we miss? Leave us a comment and let us know what new arrival you’re most excited for.

Now, the main event: WE’RE HIRING! **(9/24/2018- The application process is now closed and we won’t be considering further applications at this time!**)

I’m looking to fill two awesome positions- SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR and JR WRITER.

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR– work directly with me (Mackenzi, the owner!) on crafting killer social media content and e-mail blasts. Ideally looking for someone who will wow Astoria with their IG stories game and can write some mean copy for Facebook posts. Some familiarity with MailChimp a plus! Ideal candidate will be available to post 3-4 stories a week, plus 10-15 main feed Instagrams weekly, send out one dedicated email newsletter, and generally keep on top of our Facebook presence. Should be able to attend some scheduled tastings, events, and other meetings. You will also be working directly with the owner on paid/sponsored content. This is a paid position.

To apply- Please email Mackenzi at weheartastoria@gmail.com with sample social media posts that will wow us (links ok, attachments ok) as well as a quick get-to-know-you cover letter. Why are you the perfect candidate? What’s your favorite dessert in Astoria? Is IGTV worthless? Be creative, we’re looking for applicants that will stand out.

JR WRITER– do you have your finger on the pulse of Astoria? Do you love WordPress as much as we do? Do you have experience writing smart, factual blog posts or similar articles? Then we’d love to meet with you. The right candidate will be able to write several blog posts a week- some quick and dirty, and some with a little more meat to them. You should be professional and able to represent WHA to local business owners, at events and meetings, and via email. Ace investigative skills a major plus!

To apply- Please send several relevant writing samples as well as a casual get-to-know-you letter to Mackenzi at weheartastoria@gmail.com. We’d really like to get to know your personality, so don’t send us that same ‘ol, same ‘ol email. If you take beautiful photos, let us know! Are you well connected in Astoria? Let us know! Show us what makes you the right candidate. This is a paid position; you will be paid per post.

To be considered, please send samples and letter no later than September 21st. We’ll be meeting with potential candidates the following week. If you’ve applied before, apply again. Only current submissions are being considered this round.

And here’s a gratuitous pic of Baby G, the reason for our hiatus. She thanks you for letting me have the time off ;)

**Local business owners, that means we’re back in business. If you’d like to work with us, email me directly at weheartastoria@gmail.com.

What’s happening on DITMARS? Lots of changes. Flattops gone. A weird place next to Watawa is opening up? An açaí bowl shop? (Like come on). Lots of vacant spaces. Is Ditmars dead??

Vacant spaces because rents are insane. GNC closed because new rent is $25K per month and Jolson’s liquor store was increased to $30K per month. Think about that …. $300K+ per year just for rent. Next time the economy goes bad there will be at least a dozen closures in Ditmars and 31st guaranteed.

Word on the street is that William Hallet will be reopening. Partial ownership change, new concept, more whiskey focused, new design, new menu, same name. Fingers crossed!!

P.s. Cutest Baby
P.s.s. So glad you’re back, Astoria was lost without you
