Two years ago, local go-getters Emily Miethner and Nick Hoefly teamed up to organize the Astoria Creatives Meetup, a fun and casual opportunity for creative people to meet, network, and have a great time. Tonight, they’re celebrating their two year anniversary with a party at Astoria Coffee! I’ve been able to attend a few of these laid-back events, and they’re always an awesome time. It’s not your typical intimidating networking event: everyone is welcoming, friendly, and has an interesting story to tell. I work in television, but I had the chance to meet folks who work in theatre, talk radio, music, and publishing, among countless other industries. And no one takes themselves too seriously: you’ll be asked to fill out and wear a name tag with your name and something you love. People will write everything from “Star Wars” to “iced coffee.” I’m pretty sure I even saw someone write “name tags,” so no need to overthink it. (I usually write “craft beer!”) For more information or to RSVP, check out the Facebook event here and the Meetup event here. Enjoy meeting the coolest creative folks in the neighborhood!
