After having a couple conversations with the fine folks at Zorba’s Souvlaki Plus, I realized I should let you know that they will be closing after this weekend—Sunday is their last day until they reopen in the new year. And when they reopen, the place will be much bigger, with an expansion beyond the back wall and lots more space.

They also plan to have a steam table, more dinner options, and much of the current menu will remain. And let me tell you, there are some seriously delicious things on their menu. It’s not fancy food but it’s solid and tasty. I’m personally a big fan of the Greek salad with grilled chicken—they grill the chicken over a charcoal grill and the flavor is just fantastic. Also, it’s one of the few places in Queens (and probably in greater NYC) where I’ve encountered the patty melt. It’s a sort of old skool kind of sandwich-burger, but it’s one of the best. Theirs is really good. And then there’s the fresh lemonade. Seriously, Zorba’s is great!

They think it will take a few weeks to get everything finished up but you know how it goes with city paperwork and inspectors. I hope they will be open by end of January—I’m going to miss them a lot while they are closed.
