Bookworms, mark your calendars! The first annual Independent Bookstore Day is happening this Saturday, May 2, at bookstores throughout New York City, and across the country. If there was ever a day to show some love and support to the indies, this is it! Information on events and specials throughout all five boroughs can be found at bookstoredaynyc.com.

Our beloved Astoria Bookshop is getting in on the action, with events starting at 1pm. Their schedule is as follows:

1:00pm: Team Pictionary with Raina Telgemeier (Sisters) and Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy)

Team captains/local graphic novelists Raina & Dave will lead a children’s game of Pictionary. Raina & Dave’s drawings from the game will be given away to participating kids.

6:00pm: Wait, Wait…I’ve Read That!

A literary trivia game show modeled after Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, hosted by Tony Hightower of Trivia NYC. Panelists include Blake Harris (Console Wars), Lee Billings (A Billion Years of Solitude), Genevieve Valentine (Pe
rsona
), and Christian Finnegan (The Gorgeous Mosaic). Expect audience participation, book-inspired cocktails, and prizes.

Astoria Bookshop is a fantastic addition to the community, offering writing workshops, events with prestigious authors, and a place for the book lovers of Queens to spend some time getting lost in the shelves. (And it’s just a quick walk from Astoria Coffee, so you can easily hit up two local gems in the same day.) So let’s show them support, Astoria!

Astoria Bookshop, 31-29 31st St, between Broadway and 31st Ave. Astoria Website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Happy reading!
