The first annual Independent Bookstore Day is happening this Saturday, May 2, at bookstores throughout New York City, and across the country. Our beloved Astoria Bookshop is getting in on the action, with events starting at 1pm. Their schedule is as follows: 1:00pm: Team Pictionary with Raina Telgemeier (Sisters) and Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy) Team captains/local graphic novelists Raina & Dave will lead a children’s game of Pictionary. Raina & Dave’s drawings from the game will be given away to participating kids. 6:00pm: Wait, Wait…I’ve Read That! A literary trivia game show modeled after Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, hosted by Tony Hightower of Trivia NYC. Panelists include Blake Harris (Console Wars), Lee Billings (A Billion Years of Solitude), Genevieve Valentine (Pe rsona), and Christian Finnegan (The Gorgeous Mosaic). Expect audience participation, book-inspired cocktails, and prizes.
