The folks from the Wandering Jews of Astoria reached out to us and let us know about their “Startup Shabbat,” so now we’re telling you. What is a “startup shabbat”? Well, it’s not completely clear, but what is clear is that this sounds like a great event—apparently, “it may possibly be the greatest event in the history of the Wandering Jews of Astoria…if not in the entire history of all of western Queens!”

But seriously, this is a chance to get together and celebrate Shabbat with your fellow Jews in Astoria on Friday, December 12. Enjoy a catered meal by Yair Lenchner—he’s worked at places like Marketa, Milkflower, Jean George’s Restaurant, and The Mark Hotel Restaurant. And it takes place in one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood, Queens Collective (36-27 36th St).

We understand that space is limited, so register sooner than later (do that on their Eventbrite invite page). The menu specifics are TBD, but know that it will be a vegetarian dinner with a fish option, and it is NOT certified Kosher. Proceeds from tickets ($10/$15) will go to paying for food costs and the new WJOA Siddurim (prayer book). If you want to attend but can’t afford it, just email wanderingjewsofastoria@gmail.com and they’ll help you figure something out.

Services will start at 7 p.m., meal will start at 8 p.m.
