LIC Food News, June 2016 Today is a bit of a dreary day, but for me it looked up when I was perusing my phone’s photos and came across this happy memory: This is the BLT at Astoria Bier and Cheese (Ditmars), and I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s probably the best BLT I’ve had in Astoria, and definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. The basic sandwich comes with bacon, lettuce, and tomato, on nicely toasted bread, and the bacon is the serious rock star here—thicker than some, and comes with a wonderfully smoky, meaty flavor. The tomato was also great (it helped that it was in season), and the lettuce was nice and crisp. The menu says, “Our take on the classic with the best Bacon you have ever tasted. Add Avocado and Chipotle $1”—I highly recommend that you get it with avocado and chipotle. The avocado is nice and creamy and the chipotle adds a nice kick to the sandwich. This sandwich is $7.50, with an additional $1 for the avocado and chipotle. It comes with some pickles, too. Be sure to check out what they have on top to go with your sandwich, most of which is pretty affordably priced. I had a nice fruity cider with this sandwich, and loved the combination.
