It’s that time again! Halloween is just a few weeks away. There are plenty of things going on leading up to and on that day, so here’s our roundup of Astoria and LIC Halloween fun. We’ll continue to add things as we become aware of them, so check back regularly! An now, on to the events.

Saturday, October 18

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Hell Gate Horror is back again this year! This Ditmars-area haunted house is a popular seasonal destination. Here’s a testimonial from recent years. 22-34 21st Street, Astoria (under the Hell Gate Bridge)

Saturday, October 25

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The annual Halloween Harvest Festival at Socrates Sculpture Park is jam packed with activity. Some of the fun includes costume and art-making workshops, cooking demos and harvest food activities, Japanese ghost stories read under the trees, live music, and the annual canine costume contest. Rain or shine and free! 32-01 Vernon Blvd, Astoria/LIC

2 to 6 p.m. The NY Irish Center hosts their 4th Annual Oiche Shamhna Celebration. “It is said the origins of Halloween, or Oíche Shamhna, in Gaelic, can be traced back to ancient Ireland.” Families can explore Oíche Shamhna with two drama and visual arts workshops, followed by a traditional Irish Halloween party. The party is geared toward children and families. Admission: $10 per child, family & discounts available. 10-40 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City

Sunday, October 26

11:45 a.m. Astoria Moms Annual Halloween Parade welcomes all families to join in the fun. Starting place TBD, but likely Ditmars and 31st.

12:10 to 2:20 p.m. The City Ice Pavilion hosts their Monster Skate Halloween party again! Skate to Halloween music during this public skate session. Dress in costume and the best one wins a free session of skating school. Admission $9, skate rental $5. 47-32 32nd Place, Long Island City

3:15 to 5 p.m. Charles Dunbar’s “Yokai Nation” Workshop for Kids” at RESOBOX is a really something different and awesome. From the event description: “As Halloween draws near, the yokai come out. Join storyteller Charles Dunbar for an afternoon of ghostly tales and creepy happenings, highlighting some of the denizens of Japanese folklore. Yokai stories will be told, and questions will be answered about the rich and varied worlds of yokai in Japan. Children will also be able to share their own creepy tales, learn about monster origins and powers, and become aware of the ways yokai might try to trick humans as the days grow shorter.” Admission: Parent & 1 Child – $10 (each additional child +$5). Monday, October 27

8 p.m. Each Monday there’s trivia at The Albatross Bar, and this Monday it’s got a Halloween flair: ” On October 27, our questions will be all about the 90s–with the Halloween twist of having guests come dressed as their favorite 90s TV characters.” 36-19 24th Avenue, Astoria

Thursday, October 30

6 to 8:30 p.m. Head to Astoria Park Wine & Spirits for their Halloween Spirits tasting! They’ll have four craft spirits available to try—a vodka, a honey vanilla vodka, a bourbon from upstate NY, and an apple liqueur aged in bourbon barrels also from upstate. 28-07 24th Ave, Astoria

11 p.m. The Sparrow Tavern is doing a Rocky Horror Picture Show costume party this evening. As is the tradition with this film, audience participation is requested. Movie starts at midnight accompanied by Halloween drink specials. “Come dressed to impress as your favorite Rocky Horror character.” 24-01 29th Street, Astoria

Friday, October 31

11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tiny You (in both LIC and Sunnyside) is putting together a Children’s Boo-Tique! There will be treats all day and a photo contest, too, with prizes. Ages 10 and under. 10-50 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City

12 p.m. Tacuba is celebrating Day of the Dead—actually starting on Wednesday, October 29 and continuing on through Saturday, November 1. They have a special cocktail menu for the several days, but on Friday starting at 11 p.m. they’ll have a DJ and bottle service until 2 a.m. The winner of the costume contest takes home a bottle of tequila, and there will be a special menu and more. 35-01 35th Street, Astoria

3 to 5:30 p.m. The Z Hotel is hosting a kids Halloween Party! Tickets are free, but give a call to 212-319-7000 to reserve your seat. There will be pizza, french fries, hot dogs, s’mores, and peanut-free candy, with a chance to do pumpkin painting, boo bowling, and more! 11-01 43rd Avenue, Long Island City

4 to 10 p.m. Mojave is holding a “WE WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD AT ANY OTHER PARTY!” Halloween Party.” There will be happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m., live music from 8 to 10 p.m., and specialty cocktails throughout the night. As for the Halloween Costume Contest, 1st Prize receives $100 gift card, 2nd Prize receives a bottle of premium Tequila, and 3rd Prize receives a $25 gift card. 22-36 31st Street, Astoria

4 p.m. Pachanga Patterson is doing a Dia De Los Muertos celebration through Sunday, November 2. This is the traditional Mexican holiday of Day of the Dead. On Friday, there will be happy hour all night long! $6 margaritas, $4 cans of Modelo Especial & Tecate, and $3 shots of infused tequilas from 4 p.m. to midnight. Also, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., there will be a local artist painting sugar skull designs on your face if you are a customer dining at PP. On Saturday and Sunday they will have $3 shots of infused tequilas. For kids, they’ll have candy Friday night and a traditional altar set up so if you have any decorative items like skulls or candy that you want to contribute stop on by! 33-17 31st Avenue, Astoria

4:30 p.m. The Trick or Treat March is back again in LIC! Lineup at 4:15 p.m. at Gantry State Park; the parade steps off at 4:30 pm. sharp. There will be treats from the 108th Precinct and the parade will end near Manducati’s Rustica.

5 p.m. The 24th Annual Jackson Heights Halloween Parade marches on again this year. This is one of the biggest Halloween parades in Queens, and worth noting even if it is a little ways outside of the neighborhood. It goes along 37th Ave starting at 89th Street and ending at 76th Street. Lineup starts at 4:30 p.m.

5 p.m. At The Baroness, happy hour goes until 8 p.m. with drink specials starting at $4.They plan to have a Walking Dead going on their big screen till Halloween, too. 41-26 Crescent Street, Long Island City

5:30 to 7 p.m. From LIC Bar: “Make plans to spend Halloween with us! Friday Oct, 31st from 5:30-7pm stop by our Trick or Treat station for some family fun including live kids music by Lianne Bassin and spooky stories for kids told by Ali Silva! In the evening we have live music by Torpedo Joyride at 10pm followed by a late night set by DJ elegante. Wear your best costumes! No cover!” 45-58 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City

6 to 8 p.m. Connection Church is hosting their 3rd Annual Astoria Community Trick or Treat this year at Astoria Heights Playground (on the blacktop above the playground). There will be Trick or Treating stations, games, door prizes, costume contests, popcorn, hot chocolate, and a family Picture Station. 30th Road between 45th and 46th Streets, Astoria

7 p.m. Camilo’s Fear Garden 2 is at Studio Square this year—“Join Over 3000 Ghouls & Goblins
For The Largest Halloween Event in NYC.” A variety of DJs will be present, including DJ CAMILO and DJ NEW ERA. Tickets are $15 to $50—purchase here. 35-37 36th Street, Astoria

7 to 11 p.m. Woodbines is having a Halloween party and costume contest. There will be $5 drink specials, prizes, giveaways, and a $100 gift certificate for the person with the best costume. 47-10 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City

7:30 p.m. As part of MOMI’s See It Big: Horror, they are screening Poltergeist. Check out the rest of the series, which plays for the week prior to Halloween, and includes great films such as Night of the Living Dead, The Exorcist, and more. 36-01 35th Ave, Astoria

8 p.m. Neighborhood newcomer Judy & Punch is getting in on the Halloween party action with their Costume Bash. Best costume get a $100 Judy & Punch gift card. Additional prizes will be offered throughout the night. 34-08 30th Avenue, Astoria

8 p.m. “SingleCut Breersmiths is proud to host the first Halloween Disco!The Haunted Brewery will have will have local psychopaths Disco Dementia & Young Frankenstein spinning the spookiest and scariest disco records all night. There will also be a Costume Contest with generous drink prizes!” 19-33 37th Street, Astoria

8 p.m. The Irish Rover’s Halloween party involves a costume contest where the top three winners get a $50 bar tab (the Rover is also legendary in its reputation for buy backs). No time indicated for this event, but 8 seems reasonable. DJ Rockin’ Rick will also be on hand, spinning Halloween melodies, retro tunes, and more. 37-18 28th Avenue, Astoria

8 p.m. Bowery Bay is holding their Viva Las Vegas Halloween Party. “Specialty cocktails, food & your chance to win great prizes all night long. Dress as your favorite “Vegas” celebrity (think Showgirls, Elvis, Wayne!) – awards will be given out for best costumes!” 19-33 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria

8 to 11:45 p.m. Just over in BK the North Brooklyn Boat Club is running their Haunted Canoe Tours to Dutch Kills. Tickets are going fast—purchase here. “Experience Newtown CREEP! Bring Family & Fiends! Actual “DARK RIDE” w/UNDEAD GUIDES (ACA certified) CANOEING to the TERRIFYING & HAUNTED DUTCH KILLS!!!!* All are welcome to witness the horrors of the deep. You won’t find anything this Halloween that’s more Superfund than this! 8 p.m. to midnight. MoMA PS1 is hosting their third annual HALLOQUEENS Halloween Ball, with a continuation of the fun at the Haunted Warehouse After Party Hosted by Susanne Bartsch from midnight until 4 a.m. “We invite all guests to come dressed for a royal celebration of all things Queens:Royal Queens, Queens of Mean, Rock Queens, Queens of Art, Queen Bee, Queen of Hearts, Queen of the Night. With DJs, costume competition, dancing, pageantry and more.” Tickets are $15 ($30 including the after party) and can be purchased here. 22-25 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City

9 p.m. Rocky McBride’s is holding their annual Halloween party, Rocky McHalloween. Wear your favorite costume for a chance to win prizes! There will be a DJ, drink specials, including Poison Apple Shots, Black Cats, as well as pumpkin beers. 27-01 23rd Avenue, Astoria

9 p.m. Sweet Spot is running an “insane asylum” Friday and Saturday nights (no time was given to us, so we’re assuming 9 p.m is a safe time bet). On Friday night, best costume wins $500 first place, cash and prizes for 2nd and 3rd place. $4 drafts and $5 all frozen drinks. Bottle specials and packages starting at $150 both nights. 22-72 31st Street, Astoria

9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Head to William Hallet for their Nightman Cometh Halloween Party. “Come celebrate Halloween the only way how, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia style. Dress as your favorite Sunny character, or not and come enjoy wine in a can, spaghetti in a bag, riot punch and Brockman beer.
Prizes for best and worse costume.” 36-10-30th Avenue, Astoria

9 p.m. And now for something a little different…Freaky, Funky Sidra from The Queens Kickshaw. They are featuring Sidra, a naturally fermented, funky Spanish Cider. From TQK: “Rowan Imports will be serving cider from their specially-made cask. $30 gets you in the door, and drinking all the Sidra you can get into your glass.” This cider is “pungent, rustick, and challenging to your taste buds in all the best ways.” You’ll also get to try pouring the cider in the traditional way, called escanciar. 10 p.m. Penthouse 808’s Halloween Party is at the Ravel Hotel and takes up 2 floors with 10,000 square feet of Halloween decorations. They apparently have a graveyard, mortuary, and psych room set up. It is ticketed—purchase here. 8-08 Queens Plaza South, Long Island City

10 p.m. Quiet Clubbing comes to Bohemian Hall for their annual Halloween party. It’s a costume party, with prizes for the best (though costumes are not  mandatory), as well as drink specials. The event happens rain or shine. Tickets can be purchased here. Your ticket gets you access to the drink specials as well as the headphone rental (along with the music and atmosphere). 29-19 24th Avenue, Astoria

Blackbird’s on 42nd street and 30th avenue is having a party starting at 9:00 on Halloween night. Free glass of “Witch’s Brew” (sangria) to all in costume, Jell-O shot specials, live music starting at 11pm and prizes for best costume! :)
