The beauty that is Alobar’s maple bacon popcorn, a standard menu item since its beginning.
I’ve been spending more time on Eater, checking out their new redesign (so far, I like it), and have come across some great bits of info pertaining to our beats of Astoria, LIC, and Sunnyside. Today they posted the list of 2015 NYC Michelin Bib Gourmand winners, and I was delighted to see a half dozen on the list from Astoria, LIC, and Sunnyside! What are Bib Gourmands? Eater says, “These are the restaurants chosen for offering high quality on a budget (specifically, you have to be able to get two courses plus wine or dessert for $40).”
Here is the list:
- Alobar (46-42 Vernon Blvd, LIC)
- Basil Brick Oven Pizza ( 28-17 Astoria Blvd, Astoria)
- HinoMaru Ramen (33-18 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria)
- John Brown Smokehouse (10-43 44th Dr, LIC)
- Salt & Fat (41-16 Queens Blvd, Sunnyside)
- Venturo Osteria & Wine Bar (44-07 Queens Blvd, Sunnyside)
We’ve eaten at all of these places and they are very good. Additional Queens spots on the list that we also like include Ayada (Elmhurst), Biáng! (Flushing), bún-ker (Ridgewood), Little Pepper (College Point), and Uncle Zhou (Elmhurst). Of those, I could totally see places like Biáng! and bún-ker opening in Astoria and doing well; they hit the pattern of Astoria-food-want of good regional Chinese food and good Vietnamese food.
Congrats to the 2015 NYC Michelin Bib Gourmand winners! The wins are very much deserved. Are there any restaurants you think should have been on the list? Leave us a comment or a tweet!
