A while back we told you that Mexico Blvd, the popular taco truck, was opening a brick and mortar space on 36th Avenue—well, meet Chela y Garnacha!

They are in the old On the Nile Cafe and are right next door to Arepas Cafe—talk about a powerhouse pair. We can’t wait to try the food, too, and we expect it will be as delicious as the Mexico Blvd taco truck’s food is. Look for traditional Mexican food as opposed to Tex-Mex.

Here’s a photo from their Facebook page of some tasty looking guacamole.

These tacos look good, too.

From what we can tell, “chela” is slang for beer and “garnacha” refers to wine dishes to eat in hand like antojitos, so I expect we’ll see some good beer and wine tasty snacks here. We’ll see what we can find out from the owners. We look forward to learning more and checking it out!

Chela does stand for beer however in Mexican culture, garnachas refer to a fried snack, ie. a quesadilla.

Ate there last night (braved the storm and all) and it was fantastic! The tacos are delicious and fresh, so happy to have this place on 36 ave.
