The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital at Socrates S (...) What a glorious day it was on Saturday! The weather was truly amazing. We spent a few hours at Socrates Sculpture Park because that was the place to be, what with the first day of the Greenmarket, the LIC Bike Parade, Northwest Queens Food Day, and of course, all the art. Here are some photos from that incredible day. This fantastic billboard met us as we entered – Citoyen du Monde by the Beninese artist Meschac Gaba. The bike repairs and helmet fittings were crazy popular. A long line was in formation most of the afternoon. Gorgeous flowers in the front gardens at Socrates. XXX Coffee was making amazing coffee and tea, both hot and iced. They did this pourover straight into a glass of ice. Delicious iced coffee. It was the first day of the Greenmarket. You could bring your compost. They were doing a cooking demonstration at the Greenmarket info table. Beets with goat cheese – really good! Made from readily available ingredients at the Greenmarket. We learned that the Greenmarket even has a cookbook! It’s hard to see here, but Scarecrow, made of metal poles and mylar strips was brilliant and blinding at times. Another view of Scarecrow. We visited the Queens Mother of Reality by PaweÅ‚ Althamer. Inside Queen Mother of Reality. Another inside shot of Queen Mother of Reality. It was nice and cool in there. Airplane seats inside Queen Mother of Reality. Only kid-sized humans could fit up there. It was a cool view through the top of SuralArk, created by Jason Timberlake Austin and Aleksandr Mergold. A broader view from inside SuralArk. Wonderful views along the Socrates waterfront. The Queens Kickshaw was offering a smoked tofu corn dog as part of Northwest Queens Food Day. A nice cooking demo by City Harvest of radish greens. Yum! Sauteed with nuts and raisins. Tabling at Northwest Queens Food Day. City Growers were helping people learn how to plant. Had a lovely chat with the Corbin Food Project. Was nice to connect with Astoria’s Hellgate Farm and LIC’s Smiling Hogshead Farm. The Queens Kickshaw brought their little tuk tuk! And they brought incredible chocolate pudding. A view on the way home. We heart you, Western Queens.
