You can even register today! Lap Swim a great program if you are looking for a low-impact fitness program, and it’s fun to get to meet some of your fellow Astorians while working out at a historic location—Astoria Pool is the largest WPA-era swimming pool in the five boroughs and was the location of the 1936 Olympic Trials. Here are the dates and times of the Adult Lap Swimming program this year, Early Bird and Night Owl sessions: July 7 – August 29, Monday through Friday Early Bird – 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. (July and August) Night Owl – 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (July) and 8:15 p.m. (August) Last year there was a bit of confusion as to how to register for lap swimming. For years, you could just arrive at the pool and sign up on a paper form, but last year they had implemented some unexpected rules about only accessing the program by registering online first. Thankfully, these rules have been relaxed a bit. To avoid confusion, here are the registration rules straight from the Parks horse’s mouth: Registration for the summer 2014 lap swim program will take place online. Registration will begin at 4:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13. If you do not have access to a computer to register or do not know how to navigate the website to complete the registration, you may visit the lap swim pool site and complete a paper registration form during lap swim program hours. Paper registration forms filled out at the pool must be completed prior to swimming in the program. There may be a waiting period for participants visiting the pool to fill out the paper registration form. To avoid waiting we ask that you register online. I see this as good news! Also—DO NOT forget your online registration confirmation email when you arrive at the pool the first day. This year you can bring it on your phone, which is a nice change from last year (electronic proof of registration was not acceptable last year). I highly recommend registering online, as it will expedite the whole process and also make it easier for the Parks staff. Hooray for Lap Swimming’s return! See you at the pool! I signed up and just curious if you normally share lanes. Not sure how popular it is! Reply Leave a Reply to Audrey Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
