Welcome to 2013, Astoria! New eats, new adventures await and we hope you’re ready.  Here’s a few things you can start chomping on as of this week!

The holidays may be over, but special sales and promotions are going to go for a little while longer.  Especially at Chocolate Swirl, keep an eye out for a special sale this week, and also some new ideas for cakes.  Mmmm…sounds so sweet.

We recently had breakfast at Cafe Bar and really enjoyed this classic haunt, me especially loving the Cypriot breakfast with their homemade sausage, which is made with red wine.  It’s hearty and flavorful and the perfect thing to enjoy in winter.  32-90 34th Avenue, Astoria.  718. 204.5273

News of new eats at Locale came by way of our friend, Bradley, and as always, the pictures are magnificent.  Among the new things is an almond brownie with peanut butter and marshmallow topping.  The picture here says it all!  22-02 34th Avenue, Astoria.  718.729.9080

Also more in new restaurant news, as Meg reports on Queensnyc, is the opening of a new Greek restaurant called Kopiaste Taverna in the old old Taverna Vraka space.  Let’s see how this newcomer holds up, in the midst of all the competition.  23-15 31st Street, Astoria.  718.932.3220

Exciting news coming from the guys at SingleCut Beersmiths – they’ll be featuring a new milk stout later this month – early January.  We’ll keep you posted about other brew news on a rolling basis.  19-33 37th Street, Astoria.  718.606.0788

On January 16th, S Prime will host an inaugural Stags’ Leap Wine Dinner, featuring a rich 7-course menu with items such as seared scallops, wild mushroom risotto, dry-aged ribeye steak, and of course thoughtfully chosen wine to pair with it all.  See more information and buy tickets here.  35-15 36th Street, LIC.  718.707.0660
