Today I had the pleasure of spending a little time at The Queens Kickshaw for a meeting, and after that was done I decided to stay for lunch. I didn’t want anything heavy, but did want something warming, so imagine my delight when I spied this kabocha squash soup on the menu! I love their tomato soup, so I had high hopes for this newer soup – and it did not disappoint.

It’s made with a mushroom stock and contains little slices of meaty mushrooms in the soup. I love kabocha squash, which is also kind of dense. It’s also served with some toasted rye bread spread with goat cheese and mint, which might sound like a strange combination at first, but it really works.

It’s slightly sweet, definitely savory, and has a little bit of a kick to it (in all the right ways). A big bowl of soup is $8.
