Well, we’re really in the home stretch in our 12 Days of Giveaways! The next two giveaways bring you double the fun – for Day 11, we are offering a 3 course dinner for 2 people at Ovelia and 2 tickets to the New Year’s Eve party at Sweet Afton! As you know, the food at Ovelia is delicious – there’s something for everyone, meat eater and vegan alike. The NYE party at Sweet Afton will feature an open bar including beer, wine, liquor, and cocktails, as well as finger food and a champagne toast at midnight.

This is a fantastic giveaway package, full of greatness at two of Astoria’s finest food spots. We’re really excited to be able to bring it to you!
To enter, all you have to do is tell us your favorite dish or drink at either establishment. Is it the loukaniko at Ovelia? The fried pickles at Sweet Afton? Or the inventive cocktails at either spot? We want to know!
We’ll accept comments until Thursday, December 22, and choose a winner at random on Friday. Good luck!
And, don’t forget to enter the giveaway from Sweetleaf, either!

Only had brunch at Ovelia before and liked their French Toast a lot. Would love to try dinner there one day.
I have only been to Sweet Afton so far. I loved the fried beer battered pickles that my friends and I shared while making our way through the beer menu. Great laid back atmosphere is perfect for drinks.
Fries at Sweet Afton and the Sausage at Ovelia
here’s a shout out to the root beer at sweet afton!
I’ve been looking for an excuse to try their fried pickles, so here’s hoping “we heart astoria” can give me the opportunity!
The Gin Basil at Sweet Afton (made with St. Germaine, the liquor of my homeland) changed the way I look at cocktails. Describing something as tasting “clean” always seems like a pretentious way of saying nothing, but if you want the quintessential example of a “clean” taste, order the Gin Basil on a Sunday afternoon. Throw in some (decidedly not “clean” but nonetheless delicious) fried pickles, and you have the best quick brunch in the city.
I know it’s not a creative answer, but Sweet Afton’s friend pickles are the reason it’s our go-to bar! and the burgers aren’t half bad either ;)
Sweet Afton + (Bloody Mary x 5). Sunday Funday.
Sweet Afton’s grilled cheese washed down with a Captain Lawrence is an after school snack fit for adults.
The Gruyere Grilled Cheese on Pullman Loaf at Sweet Afton is delicious!
The Gruyere Grilled Cheese on Pullman Loaf is delicious!
Deep fried pickles FTW. Have always wanted to try both places on NYE :)

out of all the greek spots in Astoria, I really think Ovelia has the best spinach pie!!
and I have to give much credit to the deep fried pickles at Sweet Afton!!
They cook the burgers in pickle brine at Sweet Afton… I drool in my sleep thinking about them!
Only tried the lamb/beef kebab at Ovelia before and loved it. Would like to try something else next time.
The baby shark at ovelia is to die for!!
sweet afton veg burger is noms
I am obsessed with Sweet Afton’s mac and cheese and, well, any of their cocktails. But especially the rye root beer. And I’d love the excuse to try out Ovelia!
Sweet Afton’s mac-n-cheese is a-maaaz-ing! Nom nom nomity :) Somehow still haven’t tried out Ovelia, if I win this [*crossing fingers and toes*], I’ll finally make it there :)
I LOVE the mousaka at Ovelias, yum!
I love brunch at Ovelia. The sausage choices are great. Sweet Afton – the pickles are good but really, I love the whole package.
Two of my favorite Astoria places. I would LOVE to win this! My favorite dishes at Ovelia are the loukaniko and skordalia. My favorite drink at Sweet Afton is seasonal mulled wine.
The burgers at sweet afton are out of control. But those fried pickles, with that sauce…incredible.
Definitely fried pickles at sweet afton and the grilled octopus at Ovelia
the gin and basil at Sweet Afton is my go-to. mmm.
Fried pickles, without a doubt
Grilled cheese at Sweet Afton is hard to beat. Pickles too. Oh my.

Fried pickles all the way
Haven’t yet been to Ovelia but here it’s wonderful – I’ve only been an Astorian for a little over 2 months now, but am making good progress on my tour to eat everywhere in this wonderful city (over 20 restaurants already). Make Ovelia my next!
(Sorry Sweet Afton, but I’m booked for New Years)
Definitely the sweet tea at sweet afton and the mac & cheese!
Sweet Afton is hands-down my favorite bar in Astoria. That Mac-N-Cheese with bacon? Don’t get me started. And my boyfriend and I have been dying to try Ovelia for awhile now. We need a motivation boost!
The homemade sausage… Loukaniko!
The Witte Screwdriver at Sweet Afton – somehow beats the bloody mary for my favorite brunch drink of all time.
Sausages at Ovelia
A great chance to try Ovelia for the first time and to party down with some of their delicious cocktails on NYE at Sweet Afton!
I’m not going to lie, I love EVERYTHING at Ovelia. I think that their Xtapodi Stin Stara (Grilled Octopus) is better than everywhere else in Astoria, though, because it’s grilled on coals!
For me it’s a tie between the fried pickles and the burgers at Sweet Afton.
My favorite dish at Ovelia is the Greek Coffe Steak and I enjoyed seeing the Alex Skolnick Trio play there a few weeks ago!
Sweet Afton’s rye root beer is the best!
