Socrates Sculpture Park

By now, you may be aware that Astoria has a new greenmarket on Saturdays, located at Socrates Sculpture Park! It started back in June and will go until November 19, and is open from 8am to 4pm. That being said, it’s best to get there on the early side to find the best selection. Participating farmers, according to the GrowNYC website, include:

Ballard’s Honey – honey from Delaware County, New York
J. Glebocki Farm – vegetables from Orange County, New York
Gonzalez Farm – vegetables, Mexican specialty products, and strawberries from Orange County, New York.
Gudelio Garcia Farm
Hot Bread Kitchen – multi-ethnic artisan breads and tortillas from New York County, New York
Hudson Valley Duck Farm – heritage breed ducks and duck products from Sullivan County, New York
Lucky Dog Farm – organic vegetables and small berries from Delaware County, New York
Red Jacket Orchard – orchard fruit and juice from Ontario County, New York

Many Saturdays the market holds cooking demonstrations at noon… and this Saturday, your humble blogger will be giving a cooking demonstration! I’ll be making a couple of dishes – one planned and one improvised on the fly from what I can find at the greenmarket. There will be samples, too. I hope you can come by and share this fun experience with me!

The Socrates Greenmarket takes place right there at the park itself, Vernon Blvd. and Broadway. Hope to see you there!
