It’s a walking tour of historic Elmhurst with a twist! Newtown Literary presents WALKING AND WRITING THROUGH ELMHURST, a walking tour of the neighborhood with stops along the way to learn and inspire some writing (if you’re so inclined). Admission is free. Meet at 1 p.m. at Elmhurst’s library, Broadway between Justice & 51st Avenues.
The R train at Grand Ave. is one block from the library; if the R is not stopping there due to track work, go to 71st Ave./Forest Hills and transfer to a Manhattan/Brooklyn-bound R to Grand Ave.
Newtown Literary is an organization dedicated to writers from and writing about Queens. Its namesake, Newtown, is the colonial town that grew into the present-day neighborhood of Elmhurst. Newtown Literary publishes a semi-annual literary journal of the same name (in electronic and paper formats) featuring fiction, creative nonfiction, essays and poetry.
