We Heart Astoria 4th of July edition features new menu items at Sage General Store, Bear and The Queens Kickshaw at the Fancy Food Show, brunch at Sugarfreak and Ovelia and a photo recap of Astor Bake Shop’s pie eating contest.

We attended a session of Tyson Ho’s Hog Days of Summer, a project of Arrogant Swine focusing on whole hog barbecue in the North Carolina tradition. We ate expertly cooked pork, fresh cracklins, hush puppies, mustard vinegar apple slaw, and Founders Brewery beer. Future events are scheduled, too!
On Saturday 6/22 we hung out at the QAX Block Party on 37th Street between 34th and 35th Avenues in Astoria. There was food, fun, and plenty of good times.
