Their official opening starts this week and in honor of that they are hosting The Wolfhound Trad Week. More on that in a bit. A little background: Wolfhound is located at 38-14 30th Avenue, in a space that seemed “cursed” as a drinking and eating establishment. For a number of years it was home to Holiday Luggage & Gifts, a shop that sold products like handbags, little gifts, and paper goods. It closed and later became Trakia, a short-lived Bulgarian restaurant that sold pizza and then a pirate-themed spot called Fishtales. Then came The Wolfhound, and from what we can tell, it may have very well broken the curse. They serve plenty of good drinks—no food, from what we can tell, but they do have a little Irish grocery on site. Back to The Wolfhound Trad Week—Joe Byrne, one of the managing partners at the bar—sent us info on this week-long event, featuring live performances from local Irish bands and some of Ireland’s most renowned traditional musicians. Here are the details: “To officially mark opening of The Wolfhound bar, we are proud to announce “The Wolfhound Trad Week”. Traditional Irish musicians, singers and dancers from across the globe will come together at The Wolfhound Irish Bar from Monday, January 30th until Sunday, February 5th. We would like to welcome one and all to come and enjoy with us.” Featured acts start include Siobahn Peoples, Kevin Crawford, Donnie Ryan, and The Thirsty Bandits. You can see the full lineup here. Joe adds, “A particular highlight, which is not to be missed, is a ‘meet and greet’ with our special guest, Boru, Queens’ own real-life baby Wolfhound, taking place in the afternoon on Saturday, February 4.” Sounds like a terrific way to spend a week’s evening. We hope you can mosey over to The Wolfhound for some excellent Irish music, and good drinks as well.
