This is a fantastic opportunity to see places and spaces you might not venture to—or, for some, are not normally allowed to explore—in NYC. All five boroughs are represented, too. Here are the offerings in Astoria and LIC (and a few a little farther afield)—the first set of places are do not require any reservations; the second set does require advance reservations, which can be made at ohny.org/reservations. Here’s a guide to planning your OHNY reservation day, too. Events marked as OPENDIALOGUE means you can meet architects and other design practitioners during. NB: descriptions provided by OHNY staff. We hope you have a great time! NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED Welling Court Mural Project 11-90 Welling Court, Astoria Sat & Sun • 10am-6pm. Tours at 11am, 2, 4:30pm both days. Come tour this groundbreaking street art project—featuring more than a hundred murals—with the organizers, artists, and residents that help make it all happen. Sticker Social Club will be leading stickermaking sessions throughout the day for kids of all ages! AD HOC ART, 2009; REPAINTED ANNUALLY, 2ND SATURDAY IN JUNE. The Noguchi Museum 9-01 33rd Rd, Astoria Sat & Sun • 11am-6pm. Tours with curators at 1pm both days. Mention OHNY Weekend to visit this 27,000-sf gallery and outdoor sculpture garden for free! The “Highlights from the Collection: Design Into Art” exhibition tour focuses on the permeable membrane between art and design in Noguchi’s work. 1927; RENOVATION, SAGE AND COOMBE ARCHITECTS, 2004. Socrates Sculpture Park OPENDIALOGUE 32-01 Vernon Blvd, Astoria Sat • 10am-6pm. Tour with Hou de Sousa at 2pm. During OHNY Weekend, visit this former industrial site-turnedsculpture park to join architects Hou de Sousa for a tour of “Sticks,” the park’s brand new open air education studio. 1986. Greater Astoria Historical Society 35-20 Broadway, 4th Fl, Astoria Sat & Sun • 12-4pm. Tours at 1, 3pm both days. Sat • Talk at 2pm. Exhibits include “Old Astoria Village (c. 1750 – 2016),” “The Lent-Riker House (c. 1660),” “Building the Hell Gate Bridge 1916,” and “Last Novemeber in AQ,” a retrospective photo journal capturing Astoria and Long Island City each day over the period of a month. 1923. Brooklyn Grange 37-18 Northern Blvd, Roof, Long Island City Sat • 11am-4pm. Brooklyn Grange is the leading rooftop farming and intensive green roofing business in the US. Visit one of the city’s largest rooftop farms atop the historic Standard Motors Products Building, featuring panoramic views of the city. City Growers will host family-friendly workshops and children’s activities (ages 2 and up) during the farm’s open market hours. BROMLEY CALDARI, 2010 Marine Air Terminal Laguardia Airport Terminal A, Marine Terminal Rd, Jackson Heights Sat & Sun • 10am-2pm. Celebrating the glamorous days of transatlantic air travel, the main room of the Marine Air Terminal remains one of the city’s most distinctive Art Deco interiors. The terminal’s striking circular atrium is planned with rational simplicity, and features a wraparound mural depicting the history of man’s quest to conquer the skies. FDR Four Freedoms Park Landscape Tour OPENDIALOGUE Roosevelt Island, Manhattan Sunday: 11am (1.5 hours ) Join landscape architect Lois Sherr Dubin to learn about the shaping of this iconic new public space at the southern tip of Roosevelt Island. Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park OPENDIALOGUE Long Island City, Queens Saturday: 10:30am (1 hour) Join Thomas Balsley, Marion Weiss, and Michael Manfredi to learn about the transformation of a barren post-industrial site into a world class park that is both urbane and otherworldly.
