The big day is almost here! The 7th Annual New World Queens Fest, presented by Astoria Music and Arts, is going down this Saturday, August 29, from 12pm-9pm in Astoria Park. It’s going to be a jam-packed day full of awesomeness, and here’s why! 1.) A Diverse Live Music Selection Bluegrass rockers The Rusty Guns are just one of the many exciting bands taking the stage. This year’s lineup of musicians is as diverse as Queens itself. With genres including Americana, Reggae, Ska, R&B, Rock, Psychedelic, Indie, Funk, Bluegrass, and Afro-Cuban, there’s truly something for everyone. Before the big event, check out headliners The Rusty Guns (pictured above) and Escarioka. 2.) It’s Pet-Friendly Gizmo loves hanging out in Astoria Park! Photo Credit: Michelle Stein We are officially in the dog days of summer, and all of your four-legged friends are invited to join in the fun. They’ll enjoy the event just as much as you! 3.) Man Vs. Food: IRL! Photo Courtesy of Astor Bake Shop’s Facebook page For those of you with a mighty appetite and competitive nature, Astor Bake Shop is sponsoring a good old-fashioned pie-eating contest. The competition is going down at 4pm, with participants arriving at 3:30pm. For the brave, big-stomached souls looking to enter, check out the registration page here. 4.) Fun For The Whole Family Photo Credit: Raising Astoria’s Facebook page There’s plenty of excitement planned for the little ones as well! For those looking to sit and enjoy a performance, Raising Astoria will be presenting a puppet show from Wonderspark Puppets. If your kids are the type that like to get their groove on, Little Club Heads will be holding a dance party for families with children ages 1-12. 5.) It’s An Excuse To Spend The Day Outside As we’ve mentioned, summer (sadly) won’t last forever. Take advantage of the gorgeous weather (the forecast calls for clear and sunny skies on Saturday!) and soak up a moment of summer before it’s gone. 6.) Art Everywhere, Without Leaving The Neighborhood Local artists flocked to last year’s event! Over 30 artists will have their work on display: painters, sculpturists, you name it. No need to visit Manhattan for fine art: we have it all here! 7.) It’s free! Our park is pretty awesome, isn’t it? All of the Astoria amazingness listed above is completely free of charge. What else could you possibly want? We hope to see you all there!
