On Saturday I made my way over to Sweet Jane’s, a new ice cream shop that opened up on 24th Ave and 28th Street. It was really fun to see the neighborhood come out and support this independent business—Sweet Jane’s on their Facebook page said the event was “a fabulous success.” Astoria has been hungry for a really good ice cream shop, and from what we could tell, ice cream lovers will be very happy with Sweet Jane’s. Personally, I can’t wait to try one of their fudgsicles, which looked pretty delicious. (I heard someone talking about a chocolate caramel fudgsicle!) Here are some photos from the day. Getting ready for the opening! Conventional ice cream and dairy-free, made with soy, almond, and coconut milk bases. We heard the dairy-free ice creams were excellent. Yum. The Kitchen Sink flavor, made with dairy. A DJ was playing some great tunes. Early customers, including Rob Mackay from the Queens Tourism Council. Councilman Costa Constantinides was there! I believe chose black raspberry ice cream. Getting ready to cut the ribbon. Ribbon cutting complete, confetti is released. Bye, Sweet Jane’s – we’re glad you’re here! It also looked like they did a decent amount business! Reply megc June 2nd, 2014 Glad to hear this! Thanks for passing it on, Dana. The Ditmars area (well, at least north of the GCP) needed a good American-style ice cream spot (of course, La Guli has gelato), and I’ll be happy to see this place do well! Reply Emily H. June 2nd, 2014 Does anyone know their hours and if they are officially open? Their Facebook doesn’t provide much info. So excited to have dairy-free ice cream in the neighborhood! My husband and I are both vegans! Reply Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
