Fresk’o Froyo Poised to Open on 30th Avenue

A while back, we mentioned a new frozen yogurt spot called Fresk’o. Originally we thought it was going to be ice cream, but looks like the owners are riding the froyo train through Astoria. According to the company, the Prentzas family (yes, the same family that former Astoria City Council candidate Gus Prentzas is part of—he’s the President and CEO of Fresk’o!) has been whipping up fruity frozen goodness for 75 years, and they’ve finally decided to open up shop here in Astoria, the Hellenic center of NYC. This will be their flagship store.

According to their website, each day they’ll offer Greek yogurt flavors, two sugar-free flavors, and classic vanilla and chocolate. Their rotating flavors include salted caramel popcorn, root beer float, and Greek – honey vanilla. You’ll also be able to get a cup of coffee there, too (looks like Segafredo is what they’ll be serving).

They’ve been doing a lot of construction outside, and it looked like this the other day:

I walked by last night during the deluge and saw that the vertical white segments lit up with a kind of soft bluish-green color. You can see it in this photo from their Facebook page. The building sure has come a long way from its days of being partially collapsed.

I also peeked in through a sliver of unobstructed glass and saw that furniture and fixtures are there but they still need to be unwrapped and set up. The guy I spoke to a couple days ago hoped to be open late this week or beginning of next week. When they do open, their hours will be Sunday-Thursday 8 a.m to 11 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 8 a.m. to Midnight.
