Kimberly Alexandrescu was visiting Detroit with her family last Christmas when she and her husband spent an entire 24 hours discussing the possibility of buying a yoga studio. They decided it wasn’t the right decision for them…yet when they returned home to Astoria a few days later, she started looking for available space.

Kimberly has been practicing yoga for 20 years, and is also a reiki master and Urban Zen Integrative Therapist (yoga/reiki teachers who are trained treat illness symptoms through those healing modalities). She finally just opened her dream studio, Sacred Space Astoria, located at 29-05 21st Ave, to “fill the gap of what I’ve been missing for my own practice.”

“My family and I have lived in Astoria/Upper Ditmars for the last 14 years, and I’m really excited to bring this type of studio to the neighborhood,” she said. “We’ve really needed a one-stop shop for yoga, mindfulness, meditation, spiritual growth, energy work, and readings.”

Right now they have about 20 classes a week, but will be expanding their offerings as time goes on.

“We’re offering a full spectrum of workshops that will support both the physical, energetic and spiritual aspects that often accompany a yoga practice,” she said.

This includes: private reiki sessions, energy work, various types of readings, manifesting with vision boards, chakra alignments, meditation and much more. They also have a small retail space with crystals, journals, books, sage, etc., anything that “further supports a spiritual journey.”

Family programming has already begun and will be expanding in early March, including family yoga, Baby and Me, Toddler Yoga, and a weekday Toddler and Caregiver class where the toddler will have a creative/educational class in one studio and the adult will take a yoga class in the adjacent room.

As for the space, Kimberly did a full renovation and build out, which you can see detailed below. “The space is really quite zen but homey and welcoming,” she said of the final result.
