The Astoria Boulevard station is now open after construction.

The Astoria Blvd Station just reopened last night, and the MTA is right on schedule!

Astoria Blvd officially closed to the public on March 17, as the MTA continued renovating and making repairs to the station after more than 100 years of wear and tear. The work included rebuilding the station mezzanine and walkways, installing four new ADA-compliant elevators and “new platform edges, boarding zones, railings [and] lighting,” and rebuilding the subway platform itself. They set a December 2019 deadline, and appear to have made it.

According to photos from the brand new station, service is back but the work isn’t complete yet. Here is what’s finished: the new mezzanine, strengthened column foundations, four new platform staircases, two new street staircases, rehabilitated platforms, new LED lighting and new canopy roofs.

As of now, they still need to finish: the four new elevators, install ADA accessibility features, rebuild the elevated walkways, install new benches, finish platform stair enclosures, install digital signage, and upgrade the street and sidewalks.

So, there’s still a lot of work to be done, but at least residents can go back to their regularly scheduled commutes!
