Whether you’re in a long-term relationship or going on lots of first dates, Astoria is a perfect neighborhood for date night! Depending on the “vibe” you’re going for (romantic/cozy, dancing/clubbing, sports bars, or outdoor dining) here are some great choices the next time you’re looking for a new spot to dine out with your beau.

These are all restaurant/bar recs, but maybe we’ll write another post about general non-eating/drinking date ideas in the near future! Let us know if that’s something you’d enjoy.

Romantic/Cozy

Nothing quite says romance like Italian food and good wine, and Vite Vinosteria at 31-05 34th St is the perfect spot for both. Pull a “Lady and the Tramp” move with the Pappardelle alla Bolognese or split one of their inspiring meat and cheese boards. The atmosphere matches too—brick walls, cozy candles on the table and warm Edison bulb lighting will have you feeling all warm and fuzzy in no time. An equally cozy spot is DiWine at 41-15 31st Ave. A quaint space with dreamy white curtains in between their tables for two, the gastropub also features live jazz on Thursdays from 8 to 11 p.m. They also offer lots of shareable dishes—like mini marinated steak skewers and tuna tartare—so you can nibble off each other’s plates.

Dancing/Clubbing

If you and your partner like more of an upbeat scene for a night out and want to get some dancing in, check out Spyce (4218 31st Ave) or ICON (31-84 33rd St). Spyce is unique for a club in the fact that they have a large food menu as well as more crafted cocktails, and LBGTQ+ bar ICON has live DJs with local drag queen hosts all weekend long.

Sportsy

If catching a game is more your speed (no pun intended), Halsey’s Tavern (30-95 33rd St) and The Quays (45-02 30th Ave) are great choices. Halsey’s has a wide variety of cocktails and much more than just wings to eat, and isn’t overwhelmed by the amount of TVs that they overtake your night. At The Quays, expect a very homey, welcoming vibe from regulars. Decor from the owner’s homeland of Ireland and a laid-back, no-rush vibe will leave you feeling relaxed and comfortable. They only serve drinks (starting at 8 a.m.!) but you can order in food.

Outdoor Dining

In the summer, a romantic evening dining under the stars fits the bill. Pretend you are on vacation in a local sea town at Mar’s (34-21 34th Ave) and Off the Hook (28-08 34th St) with plenty of oysters and white wine. The front sidewalk bistro tables at Mar’s are perfect for people watching, while the sweet back patio with colorful murals at Off the Hook will make you feel like you’ve escaped the city for a night.

So, where do you like to go for date night?
