Get ready for APAC’s first mainstage show of the fall to kick off its 17th season: the world premiere of Veil’d, written by Monet Hurst-Mendoza and directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh. Here’s the plot:
“Veil’d tells the story of Dima, a 16-year old girl with a rare skin condition. Cloistered away in her bedroom, her parents worry that she’ll never have the “normal” American teenage experience they sought for her when they came to New York from Afghanistan. Little do they know that Dima’s getting by with some help from her secret friends—Elliot, a poet who hangs out under her window hawking rhymes, and Speedo, a talking nurse shark who saves the day in more ways than one. But will Dima get her happy ending? Rapunzel never had it this bad … or this good.”
Veil’d features:
- Sahar Bibiyan (Haram! Iran! – Emerging Artists Theatre)
- Rajesh Bose* (Indian Ink – Roundabout)
- Christopher Reed Brown (What Would Crazy Horse Do? – Kansas City Rep.)
- Kayla Jackmon (Lost Voices – HERE Arts Center)
- Nikhaar Kishnani
*Member of Actors’ Equity Association. An Equity Approved Showcase
You can read more about the playwright and director on the Veil’d website.

Actor Sahar Bibiyan was asked about most important thing she hopes the audience will take away from the play, and she replied, “That we are all Dima. We all have things we veil, cover, bury and have to overcome. We also have the same desires no matter where we are from. We have more in common than we think. And being different is beautiful.”
You can see Veil’d during its run from November 2 to 18, 2017 at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 30-44 Crescent St. (at 30th Road) in. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm, and Saturdays at 2pm and 8pm.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students and senior citizens, and are now available online at www.apacny.org. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the box office an hour prior to each performance. However, we have two offers—for $3 off regular-priced tickets, use the code VEILDWHA when ordering online.
We’re also doing a giveaway! Enter to win a pair of tickets for use any time during the show’s run. The giveaway started earlier today—good luck!
Would love to see an APAC performance – never been, but have always wanted to!
The last APAC show I saw was two years ago and I’ve been itching to go back to see another one!
My fiancee went to one show previously and we both enjoyed it immensely, would love to go again!
I work with the playwright and she is fantastic!
I’ve never been to an APAC performance. Interested in seeing some local theater.
I love everything APAC does! They really know how to use their theater space and their new plays are always thought-provoking and moving. Evensong last year and Carefully Taught the year before were amazing! I am looking forward to seeing this and Follies!!! later this year!
