Fun fact: the phrase “Taco Tuesday” was first used by WY-based Mexican food chain Taco John’s in the early 1980s, and they actually went ahead and trademarked the phrase, but it’s not enforced (they tried to do so and got some bad press as a result); and even then it’s only technically trademarked in 49 states—Gregory’s Hotel in Somers Point, NJ has the trademark there. So there’s your history lesson for the day. Onward to the taco specials! Details have been provided to us by the restaurants listed. Arriba Arriba Here at Arriba Arriba, the Taco Tuesday special lasts all day long, and on top of that their happy hour is at the very same time. Taco fillings are extensive and there are options for a wide range of tastes and dietary needs/choices: carne asada (steak), grilled chicken, chicken tinga, mole, carnitas, al pastor, chorizo, bbq pulled pork (atop mac & cheese), baby back ribs, shrimp, Baja fish tacos, mushrooms & equities, and crispy duck in adobo. They offer a $2/each taco special as part of their Sunday brunch, too. Two of the taco options are static, with the exception of [this week’s] Picante Tofu taco (Szechuan tofu, zucchini, sour cream); this special taco changes week to week and will include the fresh vegetables they have in house that week. The static tacos are Nopales (breaded & deep fried cactus, pico de gallo, cheddar and the Breakfast Taco (sunny eggs, pico de gallo, baby greens, cheddar). Each order is two tacos for $5; both tacos must be the same (so, no mix or match per order). On the topic of this special themed menu, they also offer an assortment of plates to share (chips, guac, salsa, rice & beans), as well as cocktails that are made specifically for the menu. They rotate them seasonally and make them with infusions inspired by whatever enticing produce they find at the fruit stand that week. At the writing of this article, they are featuring mango. They offer the special cocktails as a shot, or as a margarita. We hear that the house infusions have been really popular so far.
