If you’ve been reading We Heart Astoria for any length of time, you know we are big fans of APAC, the Astoria Performing Arts Center, a nonprofit, award-winning theater organization right here in the neighborhood. We love the work they do for the local arts and theater community, and they help make Astoria and the Kaufman Arts District (their offices are in Kaufman Astoria Studios!) the vibrant place it is. Their work in the theatre includes main stage productions of both revivals and premieres of new plays and musicals, some developed through readings and workshops. And their hard work has paid off with recognitions by the theater community—they have received over 40 New York Innovative Theatre Award nominations with nine wins, as well as an Off-Off Broadway Theatre Review Award. So, have you ever thought about working for APAC? Well, here’s your chance! The Executive Director position (full time) is open and APAC is look forward to hiring for this position. It pays $40K/year + benefits. Here is the pitch: “Do you have the ability to forge and strengthen relationships? Enjoy networking? Seek a position where you can impact lives? Want a flexible schedule? Love the arts? Then this job is for you! The full-time Executive Director of APAC serves as the guiding force of the organization and is responsible for the consistent achievement of APACs mission and financial objectives.” The ED handles overall administration, human resources, financial oversight, community outreach, and fundraising, and because of the nature of work the position requires a flexible schedule (some work happens during weekends and nights, because that’s the theater world); in other words, this is not a side gig. They also work closely with and report directly to the Board of Directors (full disclosure, WHA’s Mackenzi is on the APAC board). Here are more details of what the the job needs: External Relations/Development Set fundraising strategy with the Board, through grants, special events, and the solicitation of individual and corporate donors Plan and execute (with help) fabulous events External Relations/Marketing Oversee APAC outreach and messaging through traditional and non-traditional methods Programming Work collaboratively with the Artistic Director, discussing show selections in advance of a season, and approves final choices Manage annual community programs – hiring staff, working with schools and community partners External Relations/Community Outreach Represent APAC at public community events, deepening community ties and raising awareness of APAC’s value and contributions to the Astoria/LIC communities Producing/Performances Supervise house management, concessions, box office, set-up and break down of productions Finance Develop and manage budget Human Resources Hire and supervise the APAC team Board of Directors Schedule and attend board meetings, developing agendas with the Board President and framing discussions at the meeting To apply, please send resume and cover letter to info@apacny.org.
