Book lovers, rejoice – Book Culture is opening another bookstore, this time in Long Island City. The news was reported in the NY Times’s recent article, Long Island City Grows Ever Skyward. Yes, yes, another NYT real estate article, but it does have some good info in it, like this business about Book Culture’s new location. Here’s the quote:

“Ink-on-paper fans may also be heartened to learn that Book Culture, which has several Manhattan locations, has leased a 2,300-square-foot space at 26-09 Jackson, another Rockrose berth. And to increase the likelihood that Book Culture survives after it opens next year, Rockrose is discounting its rent until it can turn a profit, Mr. [Justin] Elghanayan said. ‘We think it’s important for the soul of the neighborhood,’ he said.”

Book Culture also posted about it on their Facebook page: “The rumors are true – Book Culture will be opening a 4th store in LIC!”

This means that we’ll have another quality, local, independent bookstore in Western Queens, along with fan favorite The Astoria Bookshop. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new era for bookstores in Queens? Whatever may be, we are thrilled to welcome Book Culture to Queens!

There was a book store in Astoria, Queens ‘Seaburn Bookstore’ and Sam Chekwas was the store owner. This store is now closed. Mr. Chekwas said he was going to open a small bookstore in LIC. By chance,do you know of this new bookstore? and its location? Thank you.

Yeah, I worked for Rockrose Development for a year and they don’t care about preserving the neighborhood. They’re all horrible people who like every other real estate company only care about money. We shouldn’t be celebrating their development of LIC. The Elghanayans are disgusting. They profited from the destruction of Five Points.
