Our friends at 6sqft.com passed on new renderings and descriptions of the tallest building coming to Queens, located in the Court Square section of LIC. While I personally think the renderings make it look like the height is a bit much for the area, no doubt there are folks who can’t wait to see and appreciate the extreme nature of the structure. It will be called Court Square City View Tower and will be located at 23-15 44th Drive.

Original plans were filed in February 2016, but the height has changed over the past year. It started as a 964 foot tower at 76 stories, then bumped up to 984 feet (that’s “supertall” status), and now the plan is for it to be 66 stories, according to the architects, Hill West. Still, that kind of height makes it the tallest building in Queens. Here is a map of the area, and businesses nearby, many of which will be in the shadow of this very tall building.

6sqft lays out what to expect in this building:

  • 800-unit condominium with “a slew of corner-apartment balconies”
  • 360-degree views of NYC
  • All-glass curtainwall facade
  • Retail on the ground floor
  • Fourth and fifth floors will have a “double-height, sky-lit amenity space,” including an exterior terrace on the fifth floor
  • A third-floor pool overlooked by a mezzanine lounge
  • Fitness center
  • Sauna and spa
  • Yoga room
  • Storage

As far as the look of the building, the architects say that it will be a “sleek, monolithic structure” (is that a good thing?) with an exterior of “neutral blue” glass (a common sight in LIC) with “clear green” glass along the edges. They say the structure will be “a building that appears to expose its special interiors beyond its glassy exterior.” There will also be direct ground level access to the nearby Court Square subway station; and car owners will have a parking garage available to them, too.

It’s expected that this building will be completed by 2018, which is basically just around the corner.

So what do you think—are you looking forward to having this new, very tall building in town? Will this add to the neighborhood or detract from it. We’d love to know what you think—leave us a comment.
