We got news this week that there are some changes afoot at beloved Astoria eatery, The Queens Kickshaw. After five years in business, they’ve decided to mix it up on their menu with some new flavor profiles—but don’t worry, grilled cheese sandwiches aren’t going anywhere.

One of the new changes is that Chef Cory Estelle (formerly of Venturo in Sunnyside) has joined the Kickshaw team and is one of the driving forces behind the menu’s evolution. We’re told that he recently traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia and his food has been influenced by the flavor profiles he encountered while away.

Here’s more about the changes, via owner Jen Lim:

  • Look for an all-day menu of grilled cheese sandwiches, toasts, and other shareables
  • Price point for most items will be under $10, with the exception of a couple off-menu and limited-quantity dishes.
  • Chef is making his own mozzarella in-house, and that is used in the new Soft Egg in Burrata dish—yes, that’s literally a soft boiled egg inside a ball of burrata.

Here are some of the new grilled cheese sandwiches you can look forward to:

  • Buffalo sauce-infused mozzarella with apple butter and blue cheese
  • Brie with a Thai basil-blueberry preserve, cider-poached pears
  • Gruyère with dijon and caramelized onions on house-made pretzel bread

They’ll be launching their new menu in a kind of night-market style, on the evenings of Monday, June 27 and Tuesday, June 28, 5:30-11pm. The new dishes (at slightly smaller portions) will be available for $6 each those two evenings. This is a pay-as-you-go event, not prix fixe as has been the case with some of their previous events.

Additional details can be found on their Facebook event posting and website event listing.
