Filmmakers from all over the globe will descend upon our borough from Tuesday, March 15 to Sunday, March 20, for the sixth annual Queens World Film Festival, a celebration of all things cinematic and creative.

Events will take place in Jackson Heights, Astoria, LIC, and Sunnyside. Some exciting stats:

-The festival will screen 143 films

-22 different countries will be represented

-29 films are from local filmmakers

-20 films are directed by women

One film we’re especially excited about is BUT NOT FOR ME, a NYC-based film (created by two Astorians!) about young musicians. The film will feature original songs that remarkably blend socially conscious hip hop with classical violin. The film made its debut at the 2015 Brooklyn Film Festival (where it picked up two awards: Audience Award for Best Feature Film and Best Original Score,) and has since screened across the country with stops in Austin, TX and the prestigious Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville, VA. Take a look at the trailer below, and don’t miss the screening March 19th!

Opening night for the Queens World Film Festival is Tuesday, March 15th at the Museum of the Moving Image, with an after-party at Studio Square. Tickets and more information can be found here.
