As you probably know, Queens Comfort is opening a new restaurant in the Ditmars area—they reminded us about it on their Instagram account a couple of weeks ago (BORO originally broke the news). The exact location has been a bit of a mystery, but I believe I know where it is—33-06 Ditmars. A place called Aki Sushi has been there for some time; before that it was Honoo Grill, and it was also Astoria’s Finest Bagels (which I personally did not care for).

Anyway, I spotted this photo on the Queens Comfort Instagram and wondered if it was the “closed for renovation” Aki Sushi. I walked by yesterday, peeked in the window, and saw that the left wall matches the Queens Comfort photo, so I’m calling this as the place.

So what will the new place, called Flattop Burgers (update, just Flattops, as per the owners), bring Astoria? Well, fast food-style burgers are a big part of it, according to this QNS post. These burgers will be cooked on a flat top grill—here’s a photo from Queens Comfort owner Donnie D’Alessio’s burger popup last year.

Like I said, BORO first published the news about this. I dug into Google and found the article via a back ISSU version, and here are a few choice tidbits:

  • Donnie says, “We will be serving elevated greasy spoon fair like brisket, dry aged beef burgers, deep-fried sour cherry apple pie, milkshakes, and cheese fries.”
  • Two burgers of note: the first is “The Flying Guillotine” (I sure hope they’ll have Master of the Flying Guillotine playing at some point), which is marinated in hoisin BBQ, topped with an egg roll stuffing of shrimp, duck bacon, and a l’orange reduction.
  • The second burger of note is “The Schnook” is topped with fried mozzarella, grilled pepperoni, and vodka sauce. As you can see, the over the top spirit of Queens Comfort will find its way to Flattop Burgers.

I’m personally looking forward to the standard burger, since I am a minimalist with mine. I can’t wait to see what it’s like with yummy fried onions.

On top of all this, there will be over 20 vintage arcade games and pinball machines. So, you can have a killer burger, a cocktail or a glass of craft beer (20 on tap), and beat your friend’s high score at the arcade. Here’s hoping they have at least Pac Man, Centipede, and TRON. It’ll be on like Donkey Kong.
