Do not throw away your shot at Drunken Vocab Bee glory!

This Saturday, Astoria Coffee hosts the next installment of their popular mashup event with Astoria Bookshop, but with a twist. All words included in the contest will come directly from either the smash hit Broadway musical Hamilton, or the Ron Chernow biography of the same name that inspired it. (If you’re like me, and Astoria Bookshop owner Lexi Beach, you’ve also been listening to the Hamilton cast album nonstop since it came out. Why do we listen like we’re running out of time? Probably because we’ll never be satisfied.)

Lexi gave me the scoop on inspiration for the event. Now that the Drunken Vocab Bees have become regular neighborhood events, she keeps an ongoing Google spreadsheet to keep track of unique words she comes across to be included in future competitions. While reading Chernow’s Hamilton, Lexi noticed that many words she was inputting were coming directly from the book. Not only that, but many intriguing words from the book had also been incorporated into the musical. It seemed like a perfect fit for the theme of January’s bee. WORK!

It’s important to note that while the words will be inspired by the book and show, attendees who aren’t familiar with the piece will still have just as much fun as they have at other bees. So whether you’ve memorized the rapid-fire verses of Guns and Ships, or you’ve never even heard of the Schuyler sisters, this will still be an excellent time for all.

So one last time, here’s what you’ll need to know: The event is this Saturday, January 30th at  8pm at Astoria Coffee, located at 30-04 30th Street. (and 30th Ave)

And when push comes to shove, I can guarantee that this is an event that you will absolutely love. Bah-dah-dah-dah-dah!
