Looks like another Ditmars area staple is forced to make some changes—but the good thing is that they aren’t being totally obliterated. 40+ year old Astoria Fishery (22-78 31st Street) lost their lease and are moving a block and a half away to take up residence at the California Farmers Market (21-61 31st Street. I called them to see when this move would be happening and they told me “probably next month.”

I’ll miss walking by the fish market on my way to the train and wondering what is fresh that day. I’ve had fish from there and it’s been good. Glad they are not totally disappearing, and I hope their presence at CA Farmers Market will be a good thing for the neighborhood; at least it’s not moving too far. As to what’s moving in there next? Who knows; no indication yet in the Department of Buildings site.

As an aside, I bet the Berch window painting will be destroyed—bummer. Love that guy’s work.

I’m a local attorney and have been eagerly awaiting creates opening. My offices used to be on 30th Avenue and Create was a staple for our staff. Con Edison is the holdup. They’re waiting for the natural gas feed to be connected. Hopefully it’s open in time for winter. Their soups were great to warm up with!

What’s the deal with create? Is that pizza place on Ditmars doing to open back up ever? Is anything moving into the old CVS or shoe place or yogurt shop? So much vacancy in the area, it’s sad to see.
