In this city, it’s hard to find that How-I-Met-Your-Mother-chill-out-with-your-friends-spot-next-door kind of bar. It’s the dream bar that promises to have it all: great music, perfect lighting, and amazingly fun bartenders serving you those can’t-beat-drink deals. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I am delighted to report that The Astoria Tavern may just be that dream. The decent sized Irish Pub, located deep in Astoria, has been around since August 2013 with a solid attendance by regulars and newcomers alike.

VIBE

The atmosphere is casual and full of the contagious, excited spirit of their Ireland-native bartenders. They are the heart of this bar. Whether you love to chat or do shots or hear the sound of their lovely accents, they are always down to have a good time. Please expect to burst into song when a classic comes on, along with the rest of the patrons on any of the weekend nights.

Setup

A wooden bar with matching high tables and a beautifully lit dartboard will make you feel right at home. You can munch on the tasty peanuts served from the barrel at the entrance and wash them down with your favorite beer while watching a game on one of their many TVs.

Drink Selection

Their beer selection is pretty standard, offering anything between Guinness to Lagunitas to Shock Top to Bud Light. They do have a fully stocked liquor cabinet for all the cocktails and shots your heart may desire. However, because of the easy-going vibes, I wouldn’t expect any crazy concoctions with hibiscus and mint leaves. They offer wines and sparkling beverages as well.

Specials & Events

Astoria Tavern does Happy Hour every Monday through Friday from open until 7 P.M. You can’t beat a happy hour with beer, well drinks, and shots at $4 that lasts most of the day. They have trivia Tuesday nights during the fall and spring. The entry fee is $10 per team and the winning team gets it all. They host everything from karaoke to sporting events to live musicians.

Extras

The Tavern is BYOF so feel free to grab a tasty bite around the corner or order some delivery. They also do a fifth drink buy back. That’s right. Your fifth drink is on the bartenders. Best of all, St. Paddy’s is not to be missed here.
