The next time you realize time has gotten away from you, but you just gotta eat, check out one of these ten spots. El Rey Del Taco Truck I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve ended at El Rey Del Taco Truck. It’s affordable, delicious, and conveniently parked near two main subway stations: 30th Ave and Ditmars Boulevard. There have been multiple times I’ve attended concerts or get-togethers in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and spent the evening looking forward to the taco truck trip I’d be taking on the way back. My go-to is one chicken taco and one salted beef taco. What’s yours? Locations: 33-01 30th Ave (Open until 3am) & 31st St and Ditmars Ave (Open until 1am) There’s always a late night line at El Rey Del Taco Truck! Photo Credit: Yvonne L. via Yelp King of Falafel and Shawarma There’s a good reason King of Falafel and Shawarma is expanding from its food truck to a full brick and mortar spot on Broadway: it’s always mobbed with people. Although they close on the earlier than the rest of this list, their falafel and shawarma sandwiches and plates are always fresh and assembled quickly, getting you from hangry to happy in a flash. Location: 29-18 Broadway (Open until 12am Monday through Saturday. Sunday open until 9pm) Note: Their second truck, located at 30th Ave and 33rd St has an earlier closing time: 10pm You’ll find falafel cooked to perfection, no matter how late. The slices at their Chelsea and East Village spots have always been stellar, and the Astoria outpost doesn’t disappoint. While their original Artichoke slice is fantastic (and often filling enough to be a meal on its own!) don’t be afraid to give their crab slice a try. Via Yelp Bonchon Chicken Is there a better late-night snack than friend chicken? A new arrival to the neighborhood, Bonchon Chicken serves up Korean-style chicken and cocktails until 2am on the weekends. If you don’t want the party to end, here’s your spot! Location: 25-30 Broadway (Open until 2am on weekends, 11pm on weeknights) Is there a better late night snack than a big pile of fried chicken? They offer one of the best burgers in the neighborhood, and one of my favorite vegetable sandwiches EVER. For lighter fare, their fried pickles, grilled cheese, and french fries are also fun to munch on. Location: 30-09 34th St (Kitchen is open until 1am) French fries and fried pickles. A match made in heaven. Photo Credit: Share W. Via Yelp Tasty’s Diner This 24/7 diner is nothing fancy, but when you’re looking for something fast and inexpensive, Tasty’s Diner is your spot. Standard diner fare like egg sandwiches, chicken tenders, and sandwiches are all solid choices. Location: 33-04 Ditmars Blvd (Open 24 hours a day) Bacon grilled cheese and a vanilla milkshake sounds like an excellent way to end the night! If you like nachos, calamari, sliders, and their signature chicken wings, this is the spot for you. To sweeten the deal, a free pint of beer is served with your food order. Late night snack heaven! Via Yelp Halal Sandwich Shop While it’s a little off the beaten path on Steinway and 25th Ave, this spot serves fresh, affordable halal until 3am. If late night meat is what you crave, the lamb and beef shank here are hard to resist. Location: 25-61 Steinway St. (Open until 3am) The Hungry Man Platter. Via Yelp Crave Astoria How could we not include a restaurant that has a menu item called “Last Call Bowl?” This not-for-the-faint-of-heart item is served on a bed of chips and includes chili, bacon, jalepenos, scallions, cheddar sauce and ranch dressing. Bring your appetite to Crave, or be ready to have lots of leftovers the morning after! Vua Yelp Pita House Although this list is admittedly full of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/Halal spots, this place deserves to round out the list. Open until 4am, Pita House is a short walk from 30th Ave subway station and is a dependable restaurant for falafel, gyro sandwiches, and spinach pie.
