Mamu Thai_Logo I’ve already shared my personal  enjoyment of Mamu Thai, naming them in my Best of Astoria Picks. Finally, I got to bring my WHA friends along for a tasting, during that time we had eleven dishes. Check out these five highlights. Marielle Solan captured the bright colors of this tasting, big props to her!

Mamu Thai_Larb SaladThis Larb Gai salad is made with minced spicy chicken mixed with shallots, fresh lime, ground roasted rice, with a hint of mint. If you are sensitive to spiciness beware this has kick. This is a great starter or can be a meal all on it’s own.

Mamu Thai_Sausage SaladIf I thought the Larb Gai was kicky, my taste-buds were not prepared for this Yum Goon Chiang. Slices of sweet sausage, carrots, onions, and cucumbers tossed in a lime cilantro dressing. Again beware if spice ain’t your thing. I should mention that the dressing does have a nice sweetness that helps offset the heat.

Mamu Thai_Ro Deat This Bangkok inspired Roat Det has a slow cooked beef broth. The noodles are fresh and hand-cut, and last but certainly not least, its topped with house-made pork rinds. The beef broth is out of this world, savory with a hint of sweetness. It’s lip smacking good.

MamuThai-38This Panang Curry is very colorful and it’s a little different from other Thai curries. It’s a little thicker, almost like a light gravy. The coconut milk on top gives it a bit of sweetness. This curry is very flavorful and not super spicy. I like spice, so when dining in at Mamu Thai, I always request the spice tray for this curry.

Mamu Thai_Mango and Sticky RiceThe final highlight came at the end of the meal! It’s a seasonal specialty so get it while you can. Sliced mango served with a sweet coconut milk based sticky rice. The rice is sweet, the mango slices juicy. It’s a great dessert and you should get it before Mango season is over!

Mamu Thai, 36-02 36th Avenue, Astoria  (718) 707-0407

We Heart Astoria was invited to try the new dishes at Mamu Thai, but was not compensated to write this post.

Liking this place since they opened. In a pocket on the Astoria/LIC border that is still industrial, but I guess the secret is out. I hope they stay around for a long time.
