Astoria Coffee will be filled with local creative types this Tuesday, May 26, at 8pm, when the coffee shop hosts RAGE Readings, a new Astoria-focused reading series.

Founded by Tim Bell, a local actor and bartender at the Queens Kickshaw, RAGE Readings aims to “tap into the incredibly creative Astoria community and give a voice to writers of all disciplines.” Their four-part Summer Reading Series will consist of monthly events that give local writers the opportunity to present their work in an art-supportive venue. Their first successful event, which was held at the Queens Kickshaw, featured a short story, a one-act play, and new sketches from a local comedy team.
Tuesday’s event will be just as diverse, highlighting both an autographical piece from a writer who grew up in a mixed-race family on the Lower East Side and a satirical play about the Westboro Baptist Church. Take a look at their Facebook event here for all of the details!
RAGE Reading events will take place on the last Tuesday of every month through July. Interested in reading something of your own? E-mail write.astoria@gmail.com with submissions–they are still accepting pieces for their final two readings.
