As many of you know, it’s Participatory Budgeting season in Astoria! During April 13-19, residents will vote on up to five projects that they want to see funded. Ballot proposals that get the most votes and are within the $1 Million limit will be the winning projects.

Here’s a sample ballot so you can familiarize yourself with all 18 initiatives up for vote.

Especially note worthy are items 11 & 13:

You may recall our push for the Newtown Plaza in 2012, which ultimately ended in a contentious no vote by Community Board 1.  We’re thrilled to see it make it to the ballot this year, and encourage you to consider voting for this item. If you’re a fan of this much needed public space, we encourage you to spread the word about participatory voting by sharing this post or by talking about voting items on social media. (Don’t forget to use the tag #PB22.)

Another issue we see frequently in the WHA inbox is the lack of dog parks & runs in our neighborhood. We wanted to point out voting item 13, a dog run in Astoria! This centrally located run could be a great addition to our neighborhood, and we urge you to consider voting for this item as well.

Feel free to leave comments of support for items that are near and dear to your hearts, Astoria! We’d love to hear your feedback on this vital process.
