This past summer we were thrilled to welcome Sweet Jane’s, and indie ice cream shop, to Astoria, and from all visible signs, the neighborhood loves her sweet, cozy spot on 24th Ave. Not discouraged by all this polar vortex stuff and shutting for the colder seasons (like so many Italian ices and some froyo places do out here in the east), Jane has put together some tasty things for us all to enjoy. Here are some of the new things you will find at Sweet Jane’s these days: Hot beverages include tea, coffee (using Stone Street beans), hot chocolate (soy, almond, and coconut milk available for 50¢ extra). You can also get a Coffee Affogato, which is coffee with a mini scoop of ice cream inside. She also has a soup of the day. Waffles are now available! They are sized small, medium, and large, and come in the following configurations: Golden Devil: cinnamon apples, walnuts, whipped cream. The Lori: Greek yogurt, banana, preserves, sliced almonds Nuthouse: bananas, Nutella, sliced almonds, whipped cream Fluffy: peanut butter, fluff, peanut butter sauce Build your own: includes one topping. Toppings, which include sauces, nuts, seeds, fruit, and butters, range from butter and sugar, to chia seeds and chocolate chips, to cashew butter and Artopolis’s sour cherry preserves. You can also get your waffle a la mode for an extra $2.50.
